Stainless steel care and maintenance
Stainless steel is simple to look after. There’s no need for sealing or fancy cleaners, just use warm water and a bit of washing-up liquid. Most marks and fingerprints wipe away easily with a soft cloth. If you dry the surface afterwards, you’ll avoid water spots, which is especially helpful in hard water areas.
It is best to avoid scouring pads or strong chemicals, as these can scratch or dull the finish. If you need a deeper clean, use a cleaner made for stainless steel. Scratches are nothing to worry about, particularly with brushed finishes.
When cleaning on a brushed finish, make sure that you clean in the direction of the brushed finish, which is usually parallel to the front edge of a worktop, never across it. Light marks soon blend in and become less noticeable as time goes on. Spills from tea, coffee, wine or acidic foods won’t cause any harm if you wipe them up promptly.
Regular cleaning is all it takes. With a bit of care, stainless steel worktops stay looking good and practical for years, whether it’s in a home kitchen or a busy commercial one.
